05 — Runbooks & Field Protocols (ANS Regulation Master Index)

Operational Execution Layer

While Silos 01–04 document underlying physiology, molecules, diagnostics, and geroscience, Silo 05 translates those mechanisms into situational Standard Operating Procedures (Runbooks).

Core ANS Regulation Runbooks

1. Runbook 01 - Interoceptive Somatic Scan & Myofascial Down-Regulation

  • When to Use: Early sympathetic creep, subconscious jaw/neck/ear/back/ankle bracing, desk-bound cognitive hypervigilance, or pre-sleep wind-down.
  • Core Loop: Top-down interoceptive checkpoint audit ( + postural flexor/extensor chains) calm, slow myofascial stretching (forward fold, gastrocnemius/soleus, shoulder girdle, cervical rolls) paired with slow nasal respiration to trigger Golgi tendon organ (Ib afferent) autogenic inhibition.

2. Runbook 02 - Acute Brainstem & Dive Reflex Reset (Breath + Trigeminal Cold)

  • When to Use: Immediate sympathetic spike, acute nervousness, elevated heart rate, or respiratory shallowing ( intervention).
  • Core Loop:
    1. Alveolar & Loop Reset: deep inhale + sharp top-off inhale + long pursed-lip (“straw”) exhale (re-inflates alveoli, offloads , engages arterial baroreceptors).
    2. Pathway-Inversion Circular Breathing: slow nasal-in/oral-out followed by oral-in/nasal-out until mandibular and cervical tone visibly drops.
    3. Trigeminal-Vagal Finisher: Cold water facial wash () targeting ophthalmic/maxillary trigeminal branches () to trigger the mammalian dive reflex.

3. Runbook 03 - Hormetic ANS Range Calibration (Progressive Cold & Heat Boundaries)

  • When to Use: Longitudinal daily/weekly conditioning to widen the floor and ceiling of autonomic resilience (decoupled sessions).
  • Core Loop:
    • Low-State Calibration (Cold Adaptation): Start from mildly cool shower water and decrement slightly day-by-day until able to step directly into full cold without gasp reflex—recalibrating the brainstem shock floor and trigeminal/peripheral dive response.
    • High-State Calibration (Separate-Occasion Heat Stress): Sauna () or progressive hot shower to reach high thermoregulatory activation, followed immediately by calm, cozy passive recovery to train the steepness of the post-hyperthermic parasympathetic rebound.
